All About The Fifth Taste, Umami, Added To Four Basic Tastes (Sweet, Sour, Salty, Bitter)

Scientists have debated whether umami was a basic taste since Kikunae Ikeda first proposed its existence in 1908. In 1985, the term umami was recognized as the scientific term to describe the taste of glutamates and nucleotides at the first Umami International Symposium in Hawaii. Umami represents the taste of the amino acid L-glutamate and 5’-ribonucleotides such as guanosine monophosphate (GMP) and inosine monophosphate (IMP). It can be described as a pleasant "brothy" or "meaty" taste with a long lasting, mouthwatering and coating sensation over the tongue. The sensation of umami is due to the detection of the carboxylate anion of glutamate in specialized receptor cells present on the human and other animal tongues. Some 52 peptides may be responsible for detecting umami taste. Its effect is to balance taste and round out the overall flavour of a dish. Umami enhances the palatability of a wide variety of foods. Nuptial Flight in Honey Bees

Image
F irst of all, let's know everything about the honey bee. The nest of honey bees is known as a beehive. The hive consists of 32-60 thousand individuals, showing a highly organized division of labour in the colony. Bees are polymorphic, consisting of three types of individuals (Castes) viz, Queen (female), Drone (male) and Worker (female). Comparison  Between Worker, Drone and Queen Queen is the largest among the whole of the population in the hive and generally one per hive. If more than one is present, then as to know the capability to be one, the aspiring Queens fight with each other till only one is left so as to choose the strongest one. It is diploid and a fertile female with strong legs, walking on the comb. It feeds on Royal Jelly . A female will grow into a queen only if it is fed with royal jelly otherwise will be a future worker bee only. Sting is curved and modified as egg laying organ called ovipositor. Lays both fertilized and unfertilized eggs (1500-

Believe it or not, if you are eating these fruits, then you are not eating fruits in scientific terms!

According to science, a fruit is the seed-bearing structure in flowering plants (also known as Angiosperms) formed form the ovary after fertilization on stigma has been done. The ovule forms the seed after fertilization and ovary forms fruit ( pericarp ) and the layers outside the seed forms the fruit wall. But some fruits like Apples and pears are not true fruits as much of their fruit flesh is derived from thalamus .and so are called false fruits in botanical language. The part we generally throw in the bins along with the seeds ,is the actual fruit. Other examples of false fruits are Pineapple , common fig, Mulberry . Moreover, some fruits such as litchi and pomegranate do not have edible fruits. In litchi, the part we eat is a part of seed( i.e. tertiary integument which usually is a part of the seed coat but forms the edible part in this case) not the fruit. While in pomegranate, the edible part is also a part of seed i.e. testa , not the real fruit. The real f
